Fostering a culture of openness and support

World Mental Health Day

Lioncourt Homes is recognising World Mental Health Day (October 10) by reinforcing its commitment to fostering a culture of openness and support across its business.

As reported by On The Tools, construction continues to be one of the most challenging sectors for mental ill health, with Tradespeople in the UK being 26 per cent more likely than workers in other industries to experience mental health illness.

Lioncourt Homes has consistently recognised the growing impact that mental health is having within the construction industry and is regularly striving to find new ways to support those with mental health struggles across every sector.

A central approach that the Worcester-based homebuilder has been taking to support those with mental health struggles, is creating a growing network of trained Mental Health First Aiders, drawn from all areas of the company.

These dedicated team members, are trained to recognise early signs of mental distress and signpost staff to the most appropriate resources, ensuring help is accessible whenever it’s needed.

Open dialogue is further encouraged through regular one-to-one meetings between managers and team members, creating space for honest conversations.

This commitment extends beyond formal sessions, with an emphasis on everyday interactions that reinforce trust and transparency.

Danny Tunstall, Construction Director at Lioncourt Homes, said: “Mental health in construction is a serious issue, and World Mental Health Day serves as a reminder that nobody should face challenges alone.

“This is a message that should be felt all year round, and at Lioncourt Homes, we emphasise that mental health is every bit as important as physical health and safety.

“Our Mental Health First Aiders, one-to-one discussions, and an open-door approach, help our teams feel supported every day, whether on site or in the office.

“By embedding these values into our daily environment, we’re creating a workplace where people feel heard, valued and supported.”

This dedication to staff wellbeing reflects Lioncourt Homes’ belief that a healthy, open workplace ultimately benefits everyone from employees and subcontractors to customers within the communities they build.
