I thought downsizing was just for retirees: Psychiatrist trades five bedrooms for two with Lioncourt Homes in Gloucester

A psychiatrist has left behind a five-bedroom home to secure a two-bedroom property at Priory Meadows in Gloucester, courtesy of Lioncourt Homes.

Tony Andrews, 48, moved into The Elm, a semi-detached home in November 2025, which he describes as more than enough for his needs.

Tony, who relocated from Oxford after a relationship breakdown, previously lived in a home built in the 1870s, and elected for The Elm due to its aesthetic beauty, its uniqueness within the development, and the space it affords, despite his previous home being much larger.

He added: “In my former home, every single month there was something wrong: boiler, flooring, you name it – I was sick of it.

“With my new home, I was drawn right away by its size for a two-bedroom property. It looked detached, and looked beautiful, with a big welcoming silver birch and a long driveway. I cannot wait to see how it looks in the summer with the sun shining down.

“I thought downsizing only applied to over 60s, but in all honesty, what I have here is more than enough.”

Originally from Stratford-upon-Avon, Tony was in need of a location that suited his hybrid working schedule, with a suitable space for a home office and transport links for cities like Bristol and London.

On location, Tony said: “Those who planned this site clearly knew what to look for, it is perfectly placed. I can walk to Gloucester Quays, the supermarket and city centre, all within 20 minutes.

“I looked around many developments and wasn’t sure. I looked around the whole of Priory Meadows and knew this was the one.”
