A retired teacher from Gloucester has joined the growing number of homebuyers choosing sustainable, lower-maintenance homes at Lioncourt Homes’ five-star Priory Meadows development in Hempsted.

Mandy Stevens, 65, downsized from her larger family home to a three-bedroom Acer style property, which offers more practical, future-proofed living to suit her lifestyle, all while being closer to her family.

Originally from Bedfordshire, Mandy had been living in the family home in Tewkesbury, which she once shared with her husband Adam, who passed away in 2022, and her children who have since grown up and moved out.

Realised she was living in a home too large for her needs, Mandy had started thinking about moving to a smaller space, when she spotted signs for Lioncourt Homes’ latest development.

Mandy Stevens said: “I knew I was living in a house that was far too big, but I didn’t know what I wanted – or where. When I was passing, I noticed the signs for a Lioncourt Homes development and decided to have a look.

“Knowing that a home with solar panels and air source heat pumps was an option was a great sign that I could secure a sustainable space, and I thought that Lioncourt must be at the forefront of building homes for the future.

“I knew I wasn’t getting younger and that I wouldn’t move again after this, so future-proofing was important to me.”

Mandy was particularly drawn to the Acer house type, which she describes as quirky, noting the sloping, cottage-style ceilings and double patio doors from the kitchen and the living room as key factors in her decision to make it home.

Mandy added: “It’s lovely and spacious, and great for when my six-foot-four son comes to visit. It was always going to be a brand-new home, I knew I’d be walking into a spotlessly clean blank canvas to make my own.

“I loved that the development didn’t feel uniform. There are lots of green spaces and wide roads, and all of the homes are set a suitable distance apart and have their own distinctive character.

“From the sales office and site team to the customer care staff, everybody has been incredibly helpful. As somebody living on my own, having them on hand to respond quickly to anything I needed gave me so much reassurance.

“Priory Meadows is in such a unique position, it’s great to feel fully rural but still so close to the towns. I love that I’m so close to Gloucester Quays but feel like I’m on the edge of the city.”

Mandy also highlighted the environmental aspects of the wider Priory Meadows development, which include nesting boxes for birds and carefully landscaped green spaces.

She concluded: “The care and attention put into the surroundings really stood out to me. It’s been lovely to see the bats flying at night in the summer.
