Lioncourt Homes and HFT Break Ground on New Site in Ironbridge

Multi award-winning housebuilder, Lioncourt Homes has finalised a deal with learning disability charity, Hft, to deliver 80 new homes off Beech Road in Ironbridge. Today, the charity and housebuilder attended a celebratory event to mark the start of construction on site.

In a first for the housebuilder, the new development will include a collection of supported living houses and bungalows, aimed at integrating existing Hft residents within the wider community.

Currently, the brownfield site is home to Hft residents living within multi-occupancy bungalows and houses dating back to the 1980s. The redevelopment of the site, which is to be called Heritage Walk, will house Hft residents in 12 supported living properties, providing a community-based supported living environment. The fully-adaptable homes will include shared communal spaces and kitchens, private gardens and parking.

Following today’s groundbreaking event, the initial groundworks will commence this week with demolition of the existing buildings expected to start next month (November).

Colin Cole, Chief Executive at Lioncourt Homes, said: “Located in a beautiful area of the country, Heritage Walk will offer high quality housing, with a range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes aimed at people on all stages of the property ladder.

“Around 1/5 of the development will be allocated to community-based supported living. Heritage Walk has been sensitively designed to integrate these homes within the open-market properties, helping to build a sustainable community where all residents can live independently and build meaningful relationships and friendships with their neighbours.”

In addition to the new homes, the 15 acre site, which is within walking distance of the centre of historic Ironbridge and six miles from Telford’s town centre, will also provide extensive areas of public open space and ecological enhancements.

Kirsty Matthews, Chief Executive of Hft, said: “This landmark redevelopment enables Hft to transition from a residential to a supported living environment, which will enable us to deliver even better person-centred care and support.

“Lioncourt Homes stood out to us as a high quality and well-respected housebuilder that will deliver properties our residents will be proud to call home. We’re excited to have finalised this deal and are looking forward to seeing Heritage Walk take shape.”

Lioncourt Homes will hand over the first of the supported living properties to Hft in Summer 2024.
